A special screening of the 1998 film Satya was held on January 15, two days before its re-release in cinemas across the country, and it was attended by the film's team, including director Ram Gopal Varma, presenters Bharat Shah and Vinay Chowksey, music director Vishal Bhardwaj, writer Anurag Kashyap, and actors Urmila Matondkar, Manoj Bajpayee, J D Chakravarthy, Aditya Srivastava, and Makrand Deshpande.
The event was a trip down memory lane for the team, with J D Chakravarthy sharing some interesting anecdotes about the film's making. He revealed that there was a scene where his character, Bhiku Mhatre, was torturing a guy, and Anurag Kashyap had written a fantastic monologue for it. Chakravarthy was happy to receive the lines, but things took a turn when Ram Gopal Varma walked in and heard the dialogue.
Varma was excited about the dialogue and asked for the sheet on which it was written. However, instead of praising Anurag Kashyap, he started to tear the page, leaving everyone baffled. According to Chakravarthy, Varma's logic was that if someone wanted to kill, they wouldn't do it at the person's home, and therefore, the dialogue didn't make sense in the context of the scene.
Chakravarthy then shared a secret that he had been keeping for years. He had once asked Varma why he was giving writing credits to Anurag Kashyap and Saurabh Shukla, despite contributing significantly to the writing himself. Varma's response was shocking, to say the least. He told Chakravarthy that if some underworld fellow called him after the film's release, he could always say that he was from Hyderabad and that Anurag and Saurabh had written the film.
This revelation has left many in the film industry stunned, and it has once again highlighted the unpredictable nature of Ram Gopal Varma. The director has always been known for his unconventional approach to filmmaking, and this incident is just another example of that.
The re-release of Satya is a significant event for the film industry, as it marks the return of a classic to the big screen. The film was a critical and commercial success when it was first released in 1998, and it is widely regarded as one of the best films of the 90s. The team's trip down memory lane has generated a lot of buzz, and fans are eagerly waiting to watch the film again on the big screen.
The special screening was organized by PVR INOX, Versova Homage Screening, and Radio Nasha, and it was attended by many members of the film industry. The event was a celebration of the film's legacy, and it was a chance for the team to reminisce about the good old days. With the re-release of Satya, fans can once again experience the magic of the film on the big screen, and it is an opportunity for new audiences to discover a classic.
