ATLANTA — Former reality television stars and Atlanta multimillionaires Todd and Julie Chrisley will ask President Donald Trump for a pardon to end their time in federal prison, their attorney says. Jay Surgent, part of the couple’s defense team, told reporters that the couple will be seeking a pardon from the president in a last-ditch effort to avoid serving out their sentences.
The news comes after the couple was found guilty of conspiracy, bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion in June 2022. They were subsequently sentenced to a combined total of 19 years in prison, with Todd Chrisley receiving 12 years and Julie Chrisley receiving 7 years.
According to their attorney, the couple believes that they have been unfairly targeted by the government and that their conviction was a miscarriage of justice. The couple’s defense team has maintained that the prosecution’s case was based on flawed evidence and that key witnesses lied under oath.
Todd and Julie Chrisley rose to fame with their reality TV show “Chrisley Knows Best,” which aired on the USA Network from 2014 to 2022. The show followed the lives of the Chrisley family, including their children and extended family members, as they navigated life in the affluent suburbs of Atlanta.
However, behind the scenes, the couple was facing financial difficulties and had allegedly been involved in a series of shady business dealings. The government alleged that the couple had used fake documents and false information to secure millions of dollars in loans, which they then used to fund their lavish lifestyle.
Despite their guilty verdict, the couple has maintained their innocence and has vowed to continue fighting their conviction. Their attorney has stated that they will be filing an appeal and will also be seeking a pardon from President Trump.
The move is seen as a long shot, with many experts believing that the couple’s chances of receiving a pardon are slim. However, the couple’s attorney remains optimistic, stating that the president has shown a willingness to grant pardons to those who have been unfairly targeted by the government.
As the couple waits to hear back from the White House, they will have to serve out their sentences in federal prison. Todd Chrisley is currently being held at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, while Julie Chrisley is being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in Marianna, Florida.
The couple’s children, including their son Chase Chrisley and daughter Savannah Chrisley, have been vocal about their support for their parents and have maintained that they believe in their innocence. The family has asked for privacy and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.
