Rebel Driver Stuns F1 World by Defying 19 Colleagues in Rule Change Mutiny

MERCEDES driver George Russell, the director of the Grand Prix Drivers' Association, revealed that one F1 driver voted against 19 of his colleagues over imminent rule changes.

While the details of what these changes are, and who the driver in question is, are being kept under wraps, Russell claims that an overwhelming majority of drivers supported what is set to become fact in the near future.

The GPDA, which consists of virtually every driver on the grid, met to discuss what updates would benefit the sport and secure its long term health. From engine performance, safety regulations, to sustainability procedures, these issues continue to be debated between racing's governing body, drivers, and constructors alike.

Every year sees changes enforced by the FIA in their pursuit of an ever more competitive and engaging spectacle. Be that improving safety, allowing better wheel to wheel action, raising awareness of Climate Change or altering aerodynamics giving teams and engineers new hurdles to overcome and master.

What's interesting in this case, unlike previous amendments, is the near unanimous support that one of these rule changes has gained among the drivers despite there being one lone dissenter.

Russell expressed his delight in having such a large level of agreement though he also praised the one driver who has chosen to go against the consensus. Acknowledging that without people who bring a contrasting opinion to the table, very little progress would be made.

Ultimately, the reasons behind this decision will become clearer as we draw closer to seeing the legislation come into effect but one thing is clear: the tide of F1 history is moving fast with the support of 95% of the individuals who matter the most - those who put it all on the line, every time they get behind the wheel.
