Revealed: The Shocking Truth About Wanderers' Loan Stars: Are They Setting the EFL Ablaze?

December 8, 2024

With the season well underway, fans of Wanderers are no doubt eager to know how their loan players are faring in the lower leagues. A total of seven players have left the Macron Stadium on temporary deals, with the majority plying their trade in the EFL and non-league pyramid.

In this in-depth analysis, we will take a closer look at how Wanderers' loan stars are performing, from the highs of scoring wonder goals to the lows of struggling to make an impact. From League Two to the National League, we have scoured the country to bring you the latest news on the Wanderers players currently out on loan.

First up is defender Jake Wright, who joined National League side York City in the summer on a season-long loan. Wright has been a regular for the Minstermen, starting all but two of their league games, and has impressed with his no-nonsense displays at the heart of the defence. The 24-year-old has also chipped in with two goals, including a stunning strike against former club Braintree Town.

Fellow defender Ryan Delaney has also been making waves at National League side Dover Athletic. The 22-year-old has started 10 league games for the Whites and has earned rave reviews for his pace and power. Delaney has also netted two goals, including a last-gasp equaliser against Torquay United.

One player who has not had the best of times on loan is striker Jamie Proctor. The 28-year-old joined League Two side Newport County in the summer but has struggled to make an impact, starting just five league games and scoring one goal. Despite this, Proctor has shown flashes of brilliance, including a stunning individual effort against Crawley Town.

Another player struggling to make an impact is midfielder Joe Skarz. The 30-year-old joined National League North side Boston United on a season-long loan but has started just three league games and has yet to score. Despite this, Skarz has shown glimpses of his quality, including a man-of-the-match display against Darlington.

On a more positive note, midfielder Josh Vela has been impressing at National League side Chesterfield. The 26-year-old has started 12 league games for the Spireites and has netted two goals, including a stunning strike against former club Notts County. Vela has also shown his creative side, laying on two assists for his teammates.

Defender Alex Dacosta has also been making waves on loan at National League North side Kidderminster Harriers. The 20-year-old has started 10 league games for the Harriers and has impressed with his pace and power. Dacosta has also shown a willing to learn, taking on board the advice of his manager and improving with each passing week.

Last but not least is midfielder Jem Karacan. The 29-year-old joined National League North side Southport on a short-term loan and has started three league games for the Sandgrounders. Karacan has impressed with his vision and passing range, laying on one assist for his teammates. Despite this, the former Reading man has struggled to make an impact, with Southport currently sitting in the drop zone.

All in all, it's been a mixed bag for Wanderers' loan players. While some have excelled and shown their quality, others have struggled to make an impact. However, with the season still young, there is plenty of time for these players to turn their respective seasons around and make their mark on their temporary clubs.
