Recent advancements in rice production technology were showcased by the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) station in Isabela during the 2024 Lakbay Palay Wet Season event, sparking widespread interest and excitement among local agricultural stakeholders. This highly anticipated gathering drew approximately 450 rice farmers and agriculture students from the Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Regions, fostering an atmosphere of collaboration and learning.
At the forefront of this innovative initiative was Joy Bartolome Duldulao, PhilRice-Isabela officer in charge branch director, who underscored the significance of introducing and demonstrating cutting-edge rice production technologies available at the station. By doing so, the institution aims to provide its constituents with a unique opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in contemporary rice production practices.
The event itself featured an array of engaging activities, including an immersive field tour of rice demonstration farms and interactive Tekno Tiangge and Tekno Talakayan sessions. Partner agencies, private companies, farm schools, state universities and colleges, and local government units made significant contributions to the program, underscoring the power of unity and cooperation in addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural community.
One of the key highlights of the event was the presentation made by Arlene Sagayo, Department of Agriculture-Cordillera Administrative Region Technical Director for Research and Regulations, who illuminated the importance of developing rice technology as a means to achieve progress and sustain growth in the agricultural sector.
'If everyone unites and collaborates to overcome challenges, we can achieve our goals and build a stronger agricultural community,' Sagayo stressed, emphasizing the pressing need for a unified front in promoting the welfare of the agricultural community.
During the visit, participants had the privilege of exploring 15 field demonstration stations, each showcasing a unique and innovative method of rice production. This extensive exposure served as an immersive learning experience for the guests, enabling them to acquire knowledge of a wide range of best practices and emerging trends in the rice production sector.
This remarkable gathering serves as a testament to the nation's sustained efforts to drive agricultural innovation and growth, providing a compelling vision of a brighter future for the Philippines' agricultural community.
