VANCOUVER — A pro-Palestinian protest that took place on Oct. 7 in Vancouver has drawn the attention of the Vancouver Police, who have launched an investigation into the rally.
The protest, which was meant to show solidarity with the Palestinian people, took a dark turn when speakers allegedly expressed support for terrorist groups and chanted 'death to Canada,' according to authorities.
Police say they are reviewing footage of the protest and gathering witness statements to determine the full extent of what transpired during the rally.
'We take all incidents of hate speech and support for terrorism extremely seriously,' said a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have not yet released the names of any individuals who may have been involved in the incident.
However, officials have made it clear that they will not tolerate any form of hate speech or support for terrorism in the city.
The protest was one of several that took place across the country, with many others passing without incident.
However, the Vancouver rally stood out due to the inflammatory rhetoric that was allegedly used by some speakers.
Police say they are working to identify those responsible for the chants and statements of support for terrorist groups.
Once identified, those individuals could face charges related to hate speech and support for terrorism.
The incident has sparked a wave of concern among local residents, many of whom are worried about the impact that such rhetoric could have on the community.
'It's unacceptable for anyone to be calling for the death of our country,' said one Vancouver resident.
'We need to stand together against hate speech and support for terrorism in all its forms.'
