Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his excitement to face Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, citing the Dons' recent impressive performances as a welcome challenge for his team.
Rodgers, who has led Celtic to numerous domestic titles since his appointment, believes that Aberdeen's resurgence under their new manager makes for an intriguing match-up.
'The fact that Aberdeen are doing well adds to the excitement of the game,' Rodgers said in a press conference ahead of the semi-final clash. 'We know we will have to be at the top of our game to beat them, which is what we're looking forward to.'
When asked about potential opponents in the final, Rodgers predictably stated that he's not looking past Aberdeen. However, in a surprising admission, he revealed that he expects Rangers to come out on top in their respective semi-final match.
'We'll focus on our own game, but I think Rangers will make it to the final,' Rodgers said, without elaborating on his reasoning behind the statement.
The Celtic manager's prediction has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike, with many questioning whether Rodgers is trying to assert psychological pressure on Rangers or simply giving an honest assessment.
Regardless of Rodgers' intention, one thing is certain: Celtic will need to bring their A-game if they hope to overcome the resurgent Aberdeen and advance to the Premier Sports Cup final.
Rodgers, however, remains optimistic about his team's chances, pointing to their excellent record in domestic competitions.
'We've been in this situation many times before, and we always seem to come out on top,' Rodgers said with a smile. 'We're confident in our abilities, and we're looking forward to the challenge that Aberdeen presents.'
