Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has finally opened up about the disappointing display of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant in the recent match at Melbourne. Pant, who has been under scrutiny for his batting form, faced severe criticism for his dismissals that led to India’s collapse in the game.
Rohit, who has been a long-time teammate and friend of Pant, expressed his understanding of the youngster’s cricketing style and the pressure he is under to perform. Speaking to the media, Rohit said, “I know Rishabh for a very long time and I understand his cricket as well. He is a talented player and has the ability to take the game away from the opposition, but sometimes his eagerness to dominate the bowlers gets the better of him.”
Pant, who has been struggling to find consistency in his batting, has been facing flak from fans and critics alike for his impulsive shot selection. Rohit, however, defended his teammate, stating that Pant is still learning and growing as a player. “Rishabh is still a young player and is learning with each passing game. He has the potential to become one of the best players in the world, but he needs to be patient and selective with his shots,” Rohit added.
The Indian skipper also emphasized the importance of supporting Pant during this difficult phase, rather than criticizing him. “As a team, we need to back Rishabh and give him the confidence he needs to perform. We all know he has the talent and the ability to win games for us, and we should be patient with him,” Rohit said.
Pant’s dismissals at Melbourne were a major talking point, with many experts and former players questioning his shot selection. However, Rohit believes that Pant is not far away from regaining his form and is confident that he will bounce back stronger. “Rishabh has the ability to play match-winning innings, and I am confident that he will bounce back soon. We just need to be patient with him and give him the support he needs,” Rohit concluded.
