Royals Pitcher Cole Ragans Just Did the Most Unroyal Thing in NYC Before Big Yankees Game

October 9, 2024

Cole Ragans started his AL Division Series with a walk in the park - literally. On Sunday, the Kansas City Royals left-hander took an 11-minute stroll from the team’s hotel in midtown Manhattan, enjoying a leisurely walk that would lead him to a unique pre-game warm-up session in one of New York City’s most famous landmarks: Central Park.

Ragans, known for his focused mindset and unique pre-game rituals, decided to shake things up this time around. Rather than resorting to the usual, more intense warm-up sessions that players typically undergo before a crucial game, he chose to connect with nature and clear his mind with a casual game of catch in the park.

Reportedly, Ragans made his way to the Heckscher Ballfields, located within the Central Park area. It was there, surrounded by lush greenery and the soothing sounds of nature, that he played a game of catch with a team staff member. Far removed from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Ragans seemed to be in his element, fully immersing himself in the serenity of his surroundings.

Witnesses at the scene reported that Ragans was entirely focused on the task at hand, intently throwing and catching the baseball with a look of fierce concentration on his face. However, despite the laser-like focus, there was a palpable sense of tranquility surrounding him - something that was no doubt helped along by the picturesque scenery of the park.

When asked about his decision to warm up in Central Park, Ragans explained that he wanted to clear his head and gain a fresh perspective before the crucial game against the Yankees. For him, the change of scenery proved to be the perfect antidote to the intense nerves that inevitably come with the high-stakes world of professional baseball.

As for how the rest of the team spent their downtime before the big game, sources close to the Royals revealed that many of the players were drawn into the electric atmosphere of the city, enjoying the sights and sounds of Manhattan and getting pumped up for the intense battle that lay ahead.

While it remains to be seen how Ragans and the Kansas City Royals will fare against the Yankees in the AL Division Series, one thing’s for sure - Ragans’ unusual warm-up session in Central Park has undoubtedly earned him a special place in the hearts of fans everywhere, who will be eagerly watching to see whether this unique approach pays off in the heat of competition.
