Sabres on Fire, Tage Thompson leads Buffalo to crushing victory over Detroit Red Wings

October 27, 2024

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres are off to a great start this season, and Tage Thompson is certainly doing his part. Thompson scored two goals and added an assist as the Sabres took care of the Detroit Red Wings 5-3 at KeyBank Center on Saturday.

The 25-year-old forward has been on a tear lately, and his latest performance was a big reason why the Sabres were able to come out on top against their division rivals. Thompson opened the scoring just 3:04 into the first period when he took a pass from his teammate and fired a wrist shot past the Red Wings goalkeeper.

The Red Wings were able to tie the game up later in the period, but Thompson struck again early in the second to give his team the lead. His second goal of the game came off a rebound, as he was able to pounce on a loose puck in front of the net and tap it home.

The Sabres were able to extend their lead in the third period and were able to cruise to an easy win. Thompson also had a hand in one of Buffalo other goals, picking up an assist on a power play goal in the second period.

Thompson team's efforts were not the only notable performances for the Sabres on the night. Other Buffalo players also had standout games, including a big night from the team goalkeeper, who had multiple big saves to help preserve the win for his team.

Despite their best efforts, the Red Wings just could not seem to catch a break. They had their chances, but were unable to capitalize, and in the end, were left to ponder what could have been.

The win moves the Sabres into a tie with the Red Wings in the standings, and they could potentially find themselves in a playoff spot if they keep playing like they did on Saturday. It was a great all-around effort for the Sabres, but it could not have been done without the outstanding play of Tage Thompson.
