Social media has been abuzz lately with a revelation that is making rounds, highlighting Salman Khan's act of kindness for a Bollywood project. The news has created quite a stir among fans, bringing back memories of a remarkable film released in 2004. The film, titled Phir Milenge, dealt with a delicate subject matter - HIV awareness - and Salman Khan's contribution to the project has once again become the talk of the town. In a recent social media post, producer Shailendra Singh spilled the beans on Salman Khan's unique gesture for the film.
According to Singh, Salman Khan, who has a massive following and a stellar reputation, agreed to do the film for a whopping amount of just one rupee. But that wasn't the only interesting thing about this collaboration. It was revealed that several actors had rejected the role, fearing backlash and repercussions on their careers. However, Salman Khan, being the star that he is, not only accepted the challenge but also carried the message to the nation.
The film Phir Milenge focused on a sensitive subject that many Bollywood actors were unwilling to touch at the time. The plot dealt with HIV awareness, and the story revolved around the lives of characters who were diagnosed with the virus. Salman Khan, known for his bold and fearless attitude, was one of the few actors willing to take on a role that others deemed 'risky'. Singh, while sharing his experience, confessed that it wasn't an easy task to convince Salman to do a film on AIDS, given his superstar status at the time.
'At that time, and even now, Salman is one of the biggest youth icons. So, imagine convincing Salman to do a film on AIDS when he is actually the Rambo, the Terminator, and the Superman of India. The plot line for the lead actor is that he gets HIV and then he dies. The whole industry said no, and that's the day I called Salman Khan,' Singh shared.
Despite Salman Khan's iconic on-screen image as a macho hero, he chose to portray a character suffering from the disease. This move not only highlighted the actor's commitment to the cause but also demonstrated his courage in taking on a role that was considered 'unconventional'.
Directed by Revathi, Phir Milenge revolved around the life of Tamanna Sahni, played by Shilpa Shetty, who is diagnosed with HIV after a blood transfusion. The story took a turn when Tamanna was fired from her job and faced immense discrimination due to her HIV status. In the film, Salman Khan played Rohit Manchanda, Tamanna's former lover who also contracts the virus. Abhishek Bachchan, who appeared as Tamanna's lawyer, further added to the narrative of the film.
Though Salman Khan's decision to do the film may have left his fans heartbroken, it also helped spread a crucial message. 'Salman dies in the climax due to HIV. Obviously, his fans were not happy, but the message of the film got across the nation,' Singh added.
Singh's social media post has received massive attention, with fans and friends appreciating Salman Khan's generous gesture and bold move. The post has also brought back memories of the film, which undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the audience.
Salman Khan's impressive career has always been marked by his bold choices and undeniable charm. However, his decision to do Phir Milenge stands out, testifying his willingness to step beyond conventional norms and push boundaries. And it is this courage that has endeared him to the audience, solidifying his reputation as a true Bollywood icon.
