Samsung Just Copied Apple's Most Controversial Feature - Is One UI 7 a Total iOS Rip-Off?

October 5, 2024

Samsung has been working on the next iteration of its customized Android skin, One UI 7. The South Korean tech giant recently showcased some of the features that will be included in the upcoming update, and it appears that they have drawn inspiration from their arch-rivals at Apple.

The biggest takeaway from the showcase is the revamped multitasking menu, which bears a striking resemblance to the multitasking interface found in iOS. While Samsung has not completely copied the iOS design, there are some similarities that are too hard to ignore.

The new multitasking menu in One UI 7 features a grid-like layout, with app cards stacked horizontally and vertically. This design is similar to the iOS multitasking interface, which also uses a card-based layout to display open apps.

Another feature that has been carried over from iOS is the ability to swipe up on an app card to close it, or swipe down to go to the home screen. This is a minor feature, but it adds to the overall iOS-like feel of the new multitasking menu.

Despite the similarities with iOS, Samsung has added some unique features to the One UI 7 multitasking menu. For example, users can now create custom shortcuts for frequently used apps, which can be accessed directly from the multitasking menu.

It remains to be seen whether the similarities between One UI 7 and iOS will be well-received by users. Some may view the changes as an attempt to copy Apple's design language, while others may see them as a genuine effort to improve the user experience.

One thing is certain, however - Samsung is committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Android. The company has a reputation for innovation and experimentation, and it will be interesting to see how the new features in One UI 7 are received by the public.

In addition to the revamped multitasking menu, Samsung has also showcased several other features that will be included in One UI 7. These include a redesigned lock screen, improved notifications, and enhanced customization options.

The redesigned lock screen features a new widget-based layout, which allows users to access information and interact with their device without having to unlock it. The improved notifications system includes features such as snoozing and reminder notifications, which can help users stay on top of their schedule.

The enhanced customization options in One UI 7 include the ability to change the look and feel of the interface, with options for different icons, fonts, and color schemes. Users will also be able to customize the behavior of certain features, such as the gesture navigation system.

Overall, the features showcased by Samsung demonstrate a clear focus on improving the user experience and adding new functionality to the One UI 7 operating system. While the similarities with iOS are undeniable, it is clear that Samsung is committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Android.
