Scottie Scheffler's Dirty Little Secret: How He Psyches Out His Opponents on the Golf Course

October 16, 2024

Scottie Scheffler has been making waves on the golf course with his impressive skills, but it's not just his golf game that's getting attention - it's also his mind games. In a recent interview, Scheffler opened up about how he likes to get inside his opponents' heads and make them lose their cool.

According to Scheffler, it's all about finding the right buttons to push. He said that every player is different, and what might get under one player's skin might not have the same effect on another. But once he finds that weak spot, he's not afraid to exploit it.

Scheffler explained that he's had players get so mad on the course that they start making silly mistakes, like hitting bad shots or taking too much time to line up their putts. "It's amazing how far a little mental distraction can go," Scheffler said with a smile.

One example Scheffler gave was of a time when he was playing against a player who was notoriously slow. Scheffler said that he started taking a little extra time to line up his own shots, just to see how his opponent would react. And sure enough, the player started getting frustrated, taking longer and longer to make his shots.

"By the time we got to the back nine, he was basically unglued," Scheffler said, chuckling. "It was almost like he forgot how to play golf. It was a beautiful thing to watch."

Scheffler's tactics might sound underhanded, but he insists that it's all just part of the game. And he's right - mental toughness is a key part of golf, and players who can't handle a little bit of trash talk or mind games are going to struggle to succeed at the highest level.

But what Scheffler's interview did reveal is that he's a player who's willing to do whatever it takes to win. Whether it's by playing perfect golf or by messing with his opponents' heads, he's always going to be a threat on the course.
