Chris Foster wants you to join her in the basement. In some houses, the subterranean storey is the messiest and most neglected, but for Foster, the basement is an inviting space filled with creativity and inspiration. The local artist is one of several participants in the annual exhibition where residents open up their homes and studios to showcase their artwork.
The exhibition, now in its fifth year, aims to provide a unique platform for local artists to display their work in a more intimate and personal setting. This year, over 50 artists are participating, with some choosing to showcase their work in their homes, while others are setting up studios and galleries in historic buildings and warehouses.
Foster's basement studio is a testament to her creativity and passion for art. The space is filled with an assortment of artistic pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. As visitors make their way down the stairs, they are immediately immersed in Foster's world of art and imagination.
'I wanted to create a space that would transport people to another world,' Foster said, explaining her inspiration for the studio. 'I believe that art has the power to transform and uplift us, and I hope that my studio can provide a space for people to experience that.'
In addition to Foster's studio, visitors can also explore a range of other artistic spaces throughout the exhibition. From the stunning murals and street art adorning the walls of a converted warehouse, to the intricate woodcarvings and pottery on display in a cozy backyard garden, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The exhibition is not just about showcasing local talent; it is also about building a sense of community and connection among artists and residents. 'This event brings people together and allows us to share our passion for art,' said Jane Smith, a local artist participating in the exhibition. 'It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with others who share similar interests and to inspire and be inspired by one another.'
The exhibition is open to the public for one weekend only, so be sure to mark your calendars and plan a visit to discover the unique and creative spaces hidden throughout the local community. Whether you are an art enthusiast, or simply looking for something new and exciting to do, this exhibition promises to be an unforgettable experience.
