The concept of “Third Culture Kids” (TCK), according to Wikipedia, was coined in the 1950s to describe the children of American citizens working and living abroad.
Originally mostly used for the offspring of American expats, this term now covers a far broader and diverse group of young individuals who have experienced what is often referred to as an 'in-between' or 'multiple' identity due to their upbringing across different cultures.
As a direct result of globalization and expanding international mobility, this distinct and interesting group is now incredibly well established. By drawing people together and breaking geographical barriers, the ever-advancing systems of communication bring lots of opportunities yet bring even more dramatic changes in our lives, leaving many young people in that cultural nowhere land.
The major concerns encompassed by Third Culture Kids include losing their origins and customs, as well as identity, high changeability and hard assimilation, and thus they have grown up as some kind of stranger anywhere they may choose to live in. These youngsters lack the same rootedness as the kids surrounding them.
This often prompts questions: Where do I come from? What is my true identity? These concerns make quite a hard and long-lasting obstacle in their lives. How does their condition function when it comes to people raised in only two environments that know both cultures deeply? It is going to work perfectly okay in a blend and an integration.
TCK will find it very difficult to locate themselves in the international environment because they spent some significant considerable time up to about mid-year studying an active course at regular school where they realized those practices which had made them like everyone else around them when away.
