Pune, Oct 24 (PTI) Day 1 of the second Test between India and New Zealand witnessed an electrifying turn of events when Washington Sundar picked up two crucial wickets, including that of the in-form Rachin Ravindra, to leave the Kiwis reeling at 201/5 at tea on Thursday.
The Indian team, boosted by the impressive performance of their players in the first Test, looked to gain an upper hand over their opponents from the onset. With Kuldeep Yadav warming the bench, Washington Sundar was handed the opportunity to prove his worth as a valuable asset in countering the Kiwi left-handers.
Washington, known for his acrobatic skills on the field, did not disappoint his team as he stepped up to the challenge with finesse. He demonstrated remarkable precision and skill as he swung the momentum in India’s favour with two late wickets in the second session.
The Kiwi batsmen struggled to contain their nerves against Washington’s onslaught. As the day progressed, the Kiwis’ woes continued to mount, and they found themselves slipping further into crisis. The Kiwi fans, who were over the moon with the in-form Rachin Ravindra’s performance, were left dejected and heartbroken when Washington claimed his prized scalp.
Washington’s clinical display of spin bowling was a treat to watch for cricket enthusiasts. The Indian spinner made excellent use of his variations and extracted turn and bounce from the wicket, making life miserable for the Kiwi batsmen.
At tea on Day 1, the scoreboard read 201/5 with New Zealand in a precarious position. Going forward, it remains to be seen how the Kiwis will regroup and plan their next move to counter the Indian onslaught.
As for India, Washington’s heroics have ensured that the hosts have gained a significant upper hand in the match. However, cricket is an unpredictable game, and anything can transpire on the second day, especially with New Zealand known for their resilience.
With two days of the Test still remaining, the pendulum can swing in any direction. The stage is set for an electrifying contest between two cricketing powerhouses, as each will fight tooth and nail to gain an advantage over the other.
