Southern California Braces For Wild Winds This Sunday

January 13, 2025

The National Weather Service has issued an updated wind advisory for Southern California, effective until Sunday midday. This warning comes as strong winds are expected to sweep across the region, bringing with them the potential for power outages, property damage, and hazardous travel conditions.

The areas affected by the wind advisory include Parker Valley, Joshua Tree National Park West, Chuckwalla Mountains, Chiriaco Summit, and Palo Verde Valley. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, and any other items that could become projectiles in strong winds.

The wind advisory was issued at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday and will remain in effect until noon. During this time, sustained winds of up to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts reaching as high as 50 miles per hour. These strong winds will make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles and those with trailers.

In addition to the wind advisory, the National Weather Service has also warned of reduced visibility due to blowing dust and sand. This could lead to hazardous driving conditions, particularly on highways and interstates. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling and to leave plenty of space between vehicles.

Residents are also advised to stay indoors during the wind advisory, especially if they have any outdoor plans. The strong winds could lead to power outages, and it's essential to have a plan in place in case the power goes out. This includes having flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit on hand.

The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. In the meantime, residents are advised to stay tuned to local news and weather reports for the latest information on the wind advisory. By taking the necessary precautions and staying informed, Southern Californians can stay safe during this period of strong winds.
