Spotify Cracks Down on Inappropriate Content for Kids: New Feature Gives Parents Total Control Over Music Options

September 15, 2024

Spotify has introduced its latest feature that promises to give parents more control over what their kids can listen to on the popular audio streaming platform. The new feature, known as Managed Account, allows parents to manage and restrict content for their children under the age of 13, providing a more child-friendly listening environment.

Initially available to users of Spotify’s Premium Family plan, the Managed Account feature is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to make its platform a safer space for children to enjoy their favorite music. With this feature, parents can create a managed account for their kids and limit their access to explicit content, ensuring that they are protected from material that may not be suitable for their age.

The Managed Account feature is being rolled out as a pilot program in select countries, including New Zealand, Denmark, and Sweden. According to Spotify, this rollout will allow the company to test the feature, gather user feedback, and make any necessary adjustments before making it available to users worldwide.

So, how does the Managed Account feature work? Once a parent creates a managed account for their child, they can customize various settings to restrict content. This includes setting up filters to block explicit music, limiting access to specific playlists, and even creating a whitelist of approved artists and albums. Parents can also use the feature to monitor their child’s listening habits and receive updates on the content they are accessing.

The introduction of the Managed Account feature represents a significant step forward for Spotify in its efforts to cater to families and younger users. By giving parents more control over their child’s listening environment, the company is demonstrating its commitment to creating a safe and enjoyable experience for all users.

In a statement, a Spotify spokesperson said, “We want to ensure that Spotify is a platform where families can enjoy music together, while also feeling confident that their children are protected from content that may not be suitable for their age. The Managed Account feature is an important step in this direction, and we look forward to gathering feedback from our users and making the feature available to more countries in the future.”

While the Managed Account feature is currently only available to users of Spotify’s Premium Family plan, the company has not ruled out the possibility of making it available to other users in the future. For now, families who subscribe to the Premium Family plan can take advantage of this innovative feature and enjoy a more tailored listening experience that meets the needs of all family members.
