Sylvester Stallone Just Spilled Major Season 2 Tea and We're Freaking Out

September 14, 2024

When it comes to the world of crime dramas, few creators have made a name for themselves like Taylor Sheridan and Terence Winter. With hits like Yellowstone, 1883, and Boardwalk Empire, the two are known for their gripping storylines and unforgettable characters. But with their latest venture, Tulsa King, they're taking a slightly different approach. The show, which premiered on Paramount+, follows the story of Dwight 'The General' Manfredi (played by Sylvester Stallone), a New York mafia capo who's sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma to establish a new crew. But things quickly take a turn when Dwight realizes he's not as sharp as he used to be, and he must navigate a whole new world of crime and betrayal.

We recently sat down with Terence Winter, the show's creator and writer, to talk about what inspired him to take on this project, working with Sylvester Stallone, and what fans can expect in season two.

When did you first come up with the idea for Tulsa King, and what was it about this story that drew you in?

The idea for Tulsa King actually came about when Taylor Sheridan approached me about working on a new project together. We had worked together before, and I'd always been a huge fan of his work. When he told me he wanted to do a show about a New York mafia capo who's sent to Oklahoma to establish a new crew, I was immediately on board. I loved the idea of taking a character who's so used to being in charge and dropping him into a completely new and unfamiliar world.

What was it like working with Sylvester Stallone? Was there anything that surprised you about his approach to the character?

Working with Sly was absolutely amazing. He's a total pro and a true artist. I think what really surprised me was how committed he was to getting the character just right. He really immersed himself in Dwight's world and brought so much depth and nuance to the role. I also loved how much he liked to improvise and try new things – it really kept the scenes fresh and exciting.

Tulsa King has been hailed as the funniest Taylor Sheridan show to date. Was this a deliberate choice, or did it just happen organically?

I think the humor was definitely a deliberate choice on our parts. We knew that we were taking a character who's so used to being in charge and putting him in a completely absurd situation. We wanted to play up the fish-out-of-water aspect of it and really have some fun with it. And Sly, of course, has a great comedic timing – it was a real joy to watch him bring the humor to life.

What can fans expect in season two? Will Dwight be able to establish himself as a true player in the Oklahoma crime scene?

Without giving too much away, I think fans can expect even more action and suspense in season two. Dwight is definitely going to face some new challenges as he tries to establish himself in the Oklahoma crime scene. He's going to have to deal with some new players who are determined to take him down, and he's going to have to make some tough choices in order to protect himself and his crew.

Any final words for fans of the show?

Just that we're incredibly grateful for the support and enthusiasm of the fans. We're all so proud of what we've created, and we're thrilled to be able to share it with such a dedicated audience. We can't wait to see what the future holds for Tulsa King – and we're excited for the fans to be along for the ride!
