Taylor vs Serrano II Does Katie Taylor Deserve Her Title

November 16, 2024

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano stepped into the ring for the second time in their careers, and just like two years ago, the outcome was a highly disputed decision in favor of the Irish boxer Taylor.

Taylor retained her super lightweight championship title via unanimous decision with scores of 98-92, 97-93, and 96-94 from the judges' scorecards. However, the crowd's reaction and boxing fans around the world were left speechless as many believed that Serrano did enough to take the win.

Both fighters gave it their all in the 10-round slugfest, which was remarkably similar to their first meeting two years ago. The pace was relentless, with both fighters pushing each other to the limit. A point deducted from Serrano for a rabbit punch in the fifth round could have made a difference on the judges' scorecards.

Taylor's hand speed was a problem for Serrano early on, but she adjusted well and took the center of the ring as the fight wore on. Both fighters came into the later rounds with bruises and cuts but continued to fight with every ounce of energy left.

As the final bell rang, both fighters believed they had done enough to take the win. The crowd was on their feet, giving both fighters a standing ovation for their incredible performance. However, as the scores were announced, many fans in attendance and watching around the world were left in shock.

Many considered the decision to be a robbery, with some believing that Serrano should have been awarded the victory. Taylor's fans were delighted with the decision, but the debate will surely continue in the coming days.

Taylor secured her 23rd win in a row and remained undefeated in her professional career. The pound-for-pound champion is now expecting to face her mandatory challenger, Chantelle Cameron, after a long layoff. A clash with Cameron could take place in the spring.

Serrano, on the other hand, dropped to 45-3-1, but the highly skilled boxer cemented her status as a top contender in multiple weight classes. The Puerto Rican southpaw could now pursue fights against undisputed champions like Natasha Jonas or Alycia Baumgardner and look to regain her title in a different division.
