A 17-year-old has been arrested by the police in connection with a string of vile social media messages sent to the wife of Chelsea and Germany footballer Kai Havertz.

The teenager was detained after a complaint was filed with the authorities regarding the abusive messages that were directed towards Havertz’s wife.

The incident allegedly occurred following Chelsea’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester United, in which Havertz missed a crucial penalty in the shoot-out and also had several chances to score in open play.

It is understood that the messages were sent to Havertz’s wife on social media, with the content of the messages being described as vile and unacceptable.

The police have confirmed that a 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned by officers.

The arrest has sparked widespread condemnation of the abuse that footballers and their families often receive on social media, with many calling for greater action to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.

The football community has come together to condemn the abuse and offer support to Havertz and his wife, with many players and clubs speaking out against the vile messages.

The incident has highlighted the need for greater protection for footballers and their families from online abuse, with many calling for social media companies to do more to prevent such incidents.

Chelsea football club has released a statement condemning the abuse and offering support to Havertz and his wife, while also calling for greater action to be taken to prevent online abuse.

The statement read: "We condemn the vile messages that have been sent to Kai Havertz’s wife and offer our full support to the couple during this difficult time. We believe that social media companies must do more to prevent online abuse and protect their users."

The incident is a sobering reminder of the darker side of football and the need for greater action to be taken to protect players and their families from online abuse.
