Now that the cold temperatures have finally set in good ice is forming and more fish houses are being put out especially on the south end of Lake Bemidji but use utmost caution when venturing out in a vehicle as the ice can be unpredictable and weak in some areas.
The drop in temperatures over the past few weeks has led to the formation of good ice on Lake Bemidji and this has resulted in an increase in the number of fish houses being put out on the lake.
Anglers are taking advantage of the good ice conditions to try their luck at catching some of the lakes famous fish species including walleye northern pike and panfish.
However as vehicles start to venture out onto the ice authorities are warning people to exercise extreme caution as the ice can be weak and unpredictable in some areas.
The south end of Lake Bemidji is particularly popular with anglers and as a result there are more fish houses and vehicles on this part of the lake.
While the good ice conditions are a welcome relief for anglers the authorities are reminding people that safety should always be the top priority when venturing out onto the ice.

In addition people should always let someone know where they are going and when they plan to return and should never venture out onto the ice alone.
