The Alarming Statistic That Could Seal the Raiders' Fate in Week 3

September 22, 2024

The Las Vegas Raiders are gearing up to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, but one concerning statistic could put them at a significant disadvantage. As the Raiders prepare to take on their upcoming opponents, a particular trend has emerged that might just give the Panthers the upper hand.

Last season, the Raiders struggled mightily against teams with a strong running game. In games where their opponents rushed for over 120 yards, the Raiders posted a dismal 2-5 record. This is particularly worrisome given the Panthers' potent rushing attack, led by star running back Miles Sanders.

Sanders, who averaged over 4.5 yards per carry last season, is expected to be the focal point of the Panthers' offense. With his combination of speed and power, he poses a significant threat to the Raiders' defense, which ranked near the bottom of the league in rushing yards allowed per game last season.

To make matters worse, the Raiders are still reeling from injuries to key defensive players, including defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins and linebacker Divine Deablo. Without these starters, the Raiders' defense could be even more vulnerable to the Panthers' running game, which could spell disaster for their chances of winning.

Despite these concerns, the Raiders remain optimistic about their chances in Week 3. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who has been impressive in his first two games as the team's starter, expressed confidence in the team's ability to contain the Panthers' running game. 'We've got some talented guys on our defense, and we're working hard to make sure we're prepared for whatever the Panthers throw at us,' Garoppolo said in a recent press conference.

However, if the Raiders' defense can't find a way to shut down the Panthers' running game, it could be a long day for the team from Las Vegas. With their season already off to a rocky start, the Raiders can't afford to drop another game, especially not in a division where every win counts. Will they be able to overcome their weaknesses and come away with a much-needed victory, or will the Panthers' running game prove to be too much for them to handle?
