One grower, who has been competing for several years, explained the dedication and hard work that goes into growing these massive gourds. "It's a full-time job, from April to October," she said. "You have to be there every day, making sure the plants are watered and fertilized, and dealing with any problems that come up."

Another grower, who is competing in the contest for the first time, said he was inspired by a friend who had won the competition a few years ago. "I've always been fascinated by giant pumpkins," he said. "I love the idea of growing something that's bigger than me!"
