The Dark Secret Yuki Tsunoda Doesn't Want You to Know: Liam Lawson Exposes Mind Games

November 9, 2024

2024 is not the first time Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda have been on-track rivals, but a recent revelation from Lawson has lifted the lid on a strange intimidation tactic used by Tsunoda.

Lawson, who currently drives for the Red Bull Junior Team, has been competing against Tsunoda in various junior championships, including the FIA Formula 2 Championship.

In a recent interview, Lawson shed light on the unusual tactic employed by Tsunoda to gain a psychological edge over his competitors. According to Lawson, Tsunoda uses his silence to intimidate his rivals.

Lawson explained that Tsunoda rarely engages in conversation with his fellow drivers, preferring to keep to himself and observe his surroundings. While this approach might seem unremarkable to outsiders, Lawson believes it's a deliberate ploy to unsettle his rivals.

'Yuki is someone who doesn't really speak to anyone,' Lawson said. 'He's very quiet and keeps to himself. At first, I found it quite intimidating because you don't know what he's thinking.'

Lawson's sentiments were echoed by other drivers who have competed against Tsunoda in the past. They recall feeling uneasy around Tsunoda due to his reserved nature and the difficulty in gauging his thoughts and emotions.

While Tsunoda's tactic might be unorthodox, it has clearly had an impact on his rivals. Lawson admitted that, in the past, he found it challenging to focus on his driving when competing against Tsunoda due to the Japanese driver's intimidating presence.

However, Lawson insists that he's no longer fazed by Tsunoda's antics. The New Zealand driver has worked on his mental toughness and now views Tsunoda's silence as a weakness rather than a strength.

'Now that I've got to know him a bit better, I realize that his silence is not as intimidating as it used to be,' Lawson said. 'In fact, I think it could be a weakness for him.'

Lawson's comments have sparked a debate in the motorsport community, with some drivers praising Tsunoda's approach and others questioning its effectiveness. Regardless, one thing is certain: Tsunoda's silence has left a lasting impression on his rivals, including Lawson.

As the 2024 season unfolds, it will be fascinating to see whether Tsunoda's intimidation tactic continues to yield results. Will Lawson and other drivers be able to overcome their initial unease and gain the upper hand, or will Tsunoda's silence prove to be an unbeatable asset?
