Former Orlando Pirates maestro and current football analyst Teko Modise has been vocal about the dismal performance of Kaizer Chiefs in the recently concluded early season matches. Modise pointed out some of the glaring mistakes that the team made which ultimately led to their poor show.
Modise did not mince words when he took to his social media to call out some of the 'bad habits' that have become all too noticeable to the trained eye at Kaizer Chiefs. He began by saying that the team's lack of cohesiveness on and off the field is the primary reason behind their heartbreaking exit from the top tier of the log.
A self-proclaimed die-hard soccer fan and an ardent supporter of the beautiful game, Modise expressed his disappointment with the current state of affairs at Naturena. He emphasized that the team desperately needs an overhaul and the technical team should be revamped from the grassroot level to address the lack of consistency and cohesion that has plagued the team for quite some time now.
While discussing the team's performance this season, Modise was at pains to explain that there is more to Kaizer Chiefs than just stringing consecutive losses. He cited that the defensive frailties, lack of imagination in the attacking third, and more profoundly the coaches' reluctance to give young players a run have all combined to give Kaizer Chiefs the stuttering start to the season.
Despite being an analyst for many years, Modise still brings a layer of fresh perspective that resonates with so many fans. By laying bare the 'bad habits' that have been haunting Kaizer Chiefs, he urged the Chiefs' fraternity to wake up from their deep slumber and be serious about challenging for silverware this season.
Modise's damning assessment will certainly hurt Kaizer Chiefs but is what the doctor has ordered to propel the team back into contention. With many tough fixtures lined up and only a few matches gone into the new season, the writing is on the wall for Chiefs to up their performance or face the dire consequences.
