The Hidden Obstacle That May Cost Kamala Harris the White House

December 17, 2024

The 2024 presidential election is fast approaching, and speculation is rife about the potential Democratic candidates. One name has consistently been mentioned as a possible contender for the top job: Kamala Harris. As the current Vice President, Harris is well-positioned to make a bid for the presidency, but there's one major hurdle she needs to overcome: her boss, Joe Biden.

Despite being Biden's trusted number two, Harris's relationship with the President has been subject to intense scrutiny. Many observers believe that Biden's faltering popularity and perceived inability to connect with younger voters may ultimately harm Harris's chances of becoming the 47th U.S. President.

The situation is further complicated by Biden's ongoing struggles with Congressional Democrats. His increasingly contentious relationship with moderate Democrats has led some to speculate about the possibility of a primary challenge in 2024. If Biden decides to run again, Harris may be forced to choose between loyalty to her boss and her own ambitions.

It's worth noting that Harris has already begun to distance herself from Biden on certain key issues. Her vocal support for progressive policies, such as Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, has resonated with many on the left, but has also created tension within the party.

Biden's decision to run again would undoubtedly create a headache for Harris and her team. On one hand, she would be expected to show loyalty to her boss and support his re-election bid. On the other hand, she would need to find a way to differentiate herself from Biden and establish her own identity as a candidate.

Some have suggested that Harris might consider a role as a 'vice-president-in-waiting,' where she runs alongside a more youthful candidate. However, this would require Harris to give up her own presidential ambitions and accept a supporting role – something she may be reluctant to do.

Ultimately, Harris's fate will depend on how she navigates the complex web of alliances and rivalries within the Democratic Party. If she's able to build a coalition of support among moderates and progressives, she may yet emerge as a viable candidate in 2024. However, if Biden decides to run again, Harris may find herself facing an uphill battle to become the 47th President of the United States.
