Is 'The Practice' streaming? That's the burning question on every fan's mind as they clamor to rewatch their favorite David E. Kelley-created show. While fans wait for news on potential revivals or reruns, we decided to revisit some of the show's most outrageous cases. The drama ran for eight seasons, from 1997 to 2004, and in that time it gave us some truly unforgettable characters and storylines.
Over the years, the show handled a wide range of cases, from corporate law to white-collar crime and even murder. However, some cases stood out more than others. There was the eccentric billionaire who was suing a city magistrate for $50 million and others equally as outlandish. But then there were those especially big cases that felt like they would never be topped. Here are three insane cases that would leave any viewer left stunned.
Case 1: The Man Who Thought He Was Superman
It's unlikely that any series episode stood out more than the one titled 'Axe Murderer.' Which leads to the question: Who can forget a case featuring a client who was absolutely convinced he was Superman? This defense left everyone feeling both uneasy and drawn in at the same time. The sheer audacity of his claims raised eyebrows across the board. Not to mention how preposterous the excuse was for committing his crimes. His situation seemed less about truly being innocent, but more along the lines of him losing touch with reality and acting out of pure desperation.
Case 2: The Client Who Emulated Hannibal Lecter
The show continued the momentum set by season three with some intriguing criminals featured throughout season four. A couple of characters who would make your skin crawl while simultaneously admiring the cleverness and cunning of how they constructed these dramatic story arcs. One character felt the urge to emulate notorious serial killer, Hannibal Lecter due to some traumatic childhood experiences that developed into unhealthy patterns. What follows is his road of revelation into his true intentions behind an irrational killing, followed by intense hours of dialogue with him on trying to not just receive no less than life imprisonment, but even, somehow, acquire freedom by way of manipulating and reasoning about unproven causes and unseen motivations behind every possible angle that could be turned against his.
Case 3: Client with Monkey Phobia Gets Sued by a Monkey
This is neither meant as a joke nor any slight against Mr. Billings. In brief summary, Mr. Billings - who takes home a respectable six figures - has a significant fear of monkeys that impairs his everyday life and abilities to perform well in jobs or navigate through the emotional wellbeing that being a six figure earner comes with. However, one fateful day Mr. Billings experiences an epiphany and sets out to conquer this fear once and for all, by spending the day with a quirky character like Bobo the giant, grinning, childrenloving attraction star clown's monkey at a local fairohmygodthiscantbehappeningitsforfree. Long story short: monkey gets loose when some freak meteor hits the midway's menagerie in progress, Mr. Billings makes unfortunate scene by running for life (as fast as money can buy), and our poor scared monkey is left alone without his safe space to watch his favorite cartoons play when he was so close in regaining emotional uncontrolled momentum instead now.
