The Shocking Comeback of MCU's Most Iconic Villain: What to Expect from Agatha All Along

After the critical and commercial success of WandaVision, Marvel Cinematic Universe has once again brought back one of its most iconic villains in a brand-new series - Agatha All Along. The show, which premiered in early 2024, has gotten off to a great start, with many fans and critics alike praising the storytelling, characters, and overall tone of the series.

Kathryn Hahn reprises her role as Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch with a long history in the MCU. The series begins with Agatha still trapped in the residual illusion in Westview, where she had been left by Wanda at the end of WandaVision. The situation in Westview has taken a dark turn for Agatha, as she is now working as a police detective but has been suspended without pay. With no recollection of her true identity or powers, Agatha spends most of her days wallowing in her miserable existence - that is, until she is brought back in to investigate a murder that changes everything.

The case becomes the catalyst for Agatha’s journey to rediscovery, as she is led to reunite with her centuries-old witch locket and other signposts from her past. A timely intervention from another witch, Rio Vidal (played by Aubrey Plaza), sets the ball rolling for Agatha’s escape from the illusion. However, this reunion comes with its share of difficulties, as Agatha soon finds herself being hunted by not only Rio but also the Salem 7, a group of powerful witches with unknown motives.

Rio Vidal, a mysterious and formidable witch, has a personal grudge against Agatha, which puts the latter in a precarious situation. Agatha will have to use her wit and whatever little she remembers from her past to save herself from Rio’s wrath. Furthermore, Agatha also meets an enigmatic teenage boy, played by Joe Locke, who becomes her unlikely ally in this turbulent journey.

As Agatha embarks on her journey to escape the clutches of her pursuers, she realizes that to regain her lost powers, she needs to walk the fabled Witches’ Road. This road holds a special significance in the world of witches, as it is believed to possess the power to unlock a witch’s true potential. But, in order to unlock this potential, Agatha must first gather a new coven of witches to accompany her on this perilous journey. This poses as the only way for Agatha to “get my purple back,” as she phrases her longing for regaining her magical powers.

With Agatha All Along, it seems the Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally produced a series that addresses some of the main issues encountered by their earlier shows. While it’s too early to call Agatha All Along a total success, the initial impressions have been quite positive. We’ll have to wait for the remaining episodes to see how the series unfolds.
