Chase Hunter scored 16 points and Ian Schieffelin grabbed 15 rebounds to lead host Clemson to an 86-58 victory over Florida A&M on Friday night at Clemson, S.C. The Tigers (7-1) picked up their fourth consecutive victory as they broke away from a close first half to dominate the Rattlers in the final 20 minutes.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams trading baskets and playing tough defense. Clemson's Hunter was the star of the show, scoring 10 points in the first half, including a pair of three-pointers. However, Florida A&M (1-6) was able to keep pace, thanks to the play of their point guard, who had 8 points and 5 assists in the first half.
The score was tied at 34-34 going into the break, but Clemson came out on fire in the second half. The Tigers opened the half on a 10-2 run, capped off by a Schieffelin dunk. The Rattlers were never able to recover, as Clemson's defense stiffened and their offense found its rhythm.
Ian Schieffelin was the star of the second half, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. His dominant play in the paint was too much for the Rattlers to handle, as Clemson outscored them 52-24 in the final 20 minutes.
Other Clemson players also stepped up in the second half, including PJ Hall, who scored 14 points, and Brevin Galloway, who added 12 points off the bench. The Tigers' bench outscored the Rattlers' bench 26-8 in the second half.
The victory was Clemson's fourth in a row, and it moved them to 7-1 on the season. The Tigers will look to keep their streak going when they face off against their next opponent.
On the other hand, the loss was the sixth of the season for Florida A&M. The Rattlers have struggled to find consistency on both ends of the floor, and they will look to regroup and get back on track in their next game.
Overall, it was a dominating performance by Clemson, and one that showed why they are one of the top teams in the country. With their strong second-half performance, they were able to take control of the game and come away with a convincing victory.
