Portland Business Journal Publisher and President Candace Beeke recently hosted a roundtable discussion that brought together some of the most influential women in the workforce to talk about a key factor in achieving success: collaboration. The topic was timely, given that women continue to face obstacles in their careers, from pay equity to boardroom representation.
The roundtable, moderated by Candace Beeke, featured a diverse group of women who have all made a significant impact in their respective fields. Kathryn Albright, executive VP and head of global payments and deposits for commercial banking at Umpqua Bank, emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with colleagues and mentors. For Albright, collaboration has been instrumental in helping her navigate the male-dominated banking industry.
Liz Fuller, CEO of Gard Communications, echoed Albright’s sentiments, highlighting the benefits of networking and seeking guidance from other women who have experienced similar challenges. Fuller spoke about the value of being part of a community that understands the unique obstacles women face, and how that support has helped her grow both personally and professionally.
Jessica Getman, president of Brown & Brown, which hosted the event, pointed out that creating opportunities for collaboration is crucial in helping women break down barriers in the workforce. Getman emphasized that businesses must prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion to create a work environment where everyone can thrive.
Albertina Kerr CEO Allison Stark discussed the importance of female representation in leadership positions, citing the positive impact it can have on company culture and decision-making. Stark encouraged women to seek out leadership roles and support one another in their endeavors.
Lastly, Carol Parker Walsh, Ph.D., founder of Carol Parker Walsh Consulting Group, stressed the need for women to support one another in their personal and professional lives. Walsh encouraged women to foster meaningful connections, celebrate each other’s successes, and provide a safety net for those facing challenges.
The roundtable discussion concluded with a clear message: women supporting women is the key to achieving success and smashing the glass ceiling. The participating executives demonstrated that with hard work, determination, and a commitment to lifting each other up, anything is possible. As these women continue to pave the way for future generations, their stories serve as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration and support.
