As a frequent traveler, I am regularly on the lookout for anything I can do to enhance my travel experiences. And I’ve been pleased to find that American Express Platinum has improved my travels in several ways. The card certainly has a steep annual fee of $695, but the travel benefits absolutely help to offset the cost.
The American Express Platinum comes with a suite of travel-related benefits, including lounge access, hotel elite status, and travel insurance. But beyond these standard benefits, I’ve found six ways that holding this card has elevated my travel experiences.
One of the most tangible benefits of the Amex Platinum is Centurion Lounge access. These lounges provide a far superior airport experience, with complimentary food and drinks, showers, and in some locations, even private workspaces. Holding this card has allowed me to transform my pre-flight time from a chore into an opportunity to relax and recharge.
For international travelers, foreign transaction fees can be a major drag. I love that the American Express Platinum assesses no foreign transaction fees, so I can enjoy my travels without worrying about hidden fees. Given that I frequently visit countries where credit card acceptance can be spotty, this benefit provides a strong incentive to hold the card.
The Amex Platinum also comes with a unique annual Uber credit, up to $200. As someone who frequently relies on ride-sharing services to get around cities, I appreciate how this credit helps me save money on my typical travel expenses.
Another benefit that the Amex Platinum offers is automatic upgrade to gold status with Hilton Honors and gold elite status with the Marriott Bonvoy program. For anyone who regularly stays at these hotels, this upgrade can greatly enhance your experience by unlocking free breakfasts, complimentary room upgrades, and other priority perks.
Thanks to the Amex Platinum’s airline fee credit of up to $200 on one airline of my choice, I am incentivized to be more mindful of flights and flight-related costs. Plus, with the ability to earn 5x points on flights booked directly with airlines or through Amex Travel, I earn rewards that can be redeemed to offset the cost of air travel.
Last but not least, I appreciate how the American Express Platinum stands out with premium travel insurance coverage. This includes protection against trip cancellations and interruptions, medical emergencies, and other types of unforeseen situations that can befall travelers.
In conclusion, the Amex Platinum has genuinely transformed my travel experiences, from airport lounges to upgraded hotel perks. And despite its high annual fee, the card’s numerous benefits have saved me hundreds of dollars and allowed me to prioritize comfort and convenience on my travels.
