Yuki Tsunoda remains onboard at Racing Bulls for a fifth season in 2025 after being overlooked for Red Bull promotion, with the less experienced Liam Lawson instead being backed by Red Bull management to take up the difficult second seat alongside Max Verstappen.
Ever since he was originally announced for 2025, at the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, the 24-year-old has been adamant he is ready for the top seat, but it seems his efforts have not been enough to convince the Red Bull hierarchy.
This decision has sparked a mix of reactions from fans and pundits alike, with some questioning the reasoning behind Tsunoda's snub, while others are excited to see how Lawson will perform under the pressure of driving for Red Bull.
Tsunoda has been a part of the Red Bull junior program for several years and has shown immense talent and potential, but it appears that the team has decided to go with a different driver for the upcoming season.
The Japanese driver has been open about his disappointment, but he has also expressed his commitment to making the most of the opportunity to drive for Racing Bulls again and prove himself in the hopes of getting another chance at a Red Bull seat in the future.
On the other hand, Lawson is set to face a daunting task as he prepares to drive alongside one of the most successful drivers in the sport, Max Verstappen. The young New Zealander has shown promise in his limited outings so far, but it remains to be seen how he will handle the pressure of driving for a top team.
The decision to promote Lawson over Tsunoda has also raised questions about the Red Bull junior program and its ability to produce drivers who are ready for the top level of the sport. While the program has been successful in the past, with drivers like Verstappen and Pierre Gasly graduating to the senior team, it seems that Tsunoda's development has not been enough to convince the team to give him a chance.
As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on Tsunoda and Lawson to see how they perform and whether Red Bull's decision will pay off. One thing is certain, however: the competition for seats in Formula 1 is fierce, and drivers must be at the top of their game if they want to succeed at the highest level.
