Vandals Run Wild as Mims Drops 21 in Blowout Victory Over Evergreen State

November 20, 2024

The Idaho Vandals snapped their two-game losing streak with a convincing 101-58 win over the NAIA-member Evergreen State Geoducks, moving to 2-3 on the season.

Leading the charge for the Vandals was Julius Mims, who poured in 21 points, pacing his team to their highest point total of the young season. While Mims was the clear star of the show, the Vandals showcased their depth of talent by posting a season-high scoring total.

In what has been an up-and-down start to the season for the Vandals, their performance against the Geoducks served as a welcome respite. In the Vandals' three losses, they had struggled to find a consistent rhythm on both sides of the ball. However, against the Geoducks, Idaho looked more like a cohesive unit, distributing the ball and finding open shooters to knock down shots.

The Vandals also did an excellent job on the defensive end, holding the Geoducks to just 31.4 percent shooting. After surrendering an average of 82 points in their previous three games, Idaho limited the Geoducks to a season-low 58 points.

Evergreen State's Solomon Campbell proved to be a bright spot for his team, finishing with a game-high 25 points. However, the Geoducks couldn't get much else going offensively, and their inability to find open shooters ultimately proved costly.

On the heels of their big win, the Vandals will be looking to build some momentum heading into the remainder of their non-conference schedule. If Idaho can replicate their performance against the Geoducks, they could be well on their way to notching a few more victories ahead of conference play.
