Former England football star Wayne Rooney is no stranger to the high life, but one of his most extravagant purchases might just take the cake. The former Manchester United captain once splurged a staggering £150,000 to win an auction to attend an exclusive party in New York hosted by none other than rapper and entrepreneur Sean 'Diddy' Combs.
The auction was hosted by none other than David Beckham, Rooney's former teammate and close friend. According to sources, Beckham was hosting a charity auction, with all proceeds going to a good cause. When the bidding started, Rooney must have seen an opportunity to live it up and party with one of the most influential figures in the music industry.
The party, which took place in New York, was an exclusive invite-only event that only the who's who of the celebrity world attended. And Rooney must have felt like the luckiest man alive when his bid was accepted. But little did he know, his luck was about to change - and not in a good way.
According to sources close to the Rooney family, Coleen Rooney, Wayne's wife, was less than impressed when she found out about the £150,000 party invite. The mom of four allegedly 'banned' Wayne from attending the party, citing the hefty price tag and the fact that she didn't want her husband rubbing shoulders with Diddy, who has been embroiled in several controversies over the years.
One can only wonder what could have been if Rooney had attended the party. Would he have rubbed shoulders with A-list celebrities? Would he have even gotten a chance to chat with Diddy himself? Unfortunately, the world may never know.
But one thing's for sure - Rooney's £150,000 party invite will go down in history as one of the most bizarre celebrity purchases of all time. Whether or not it was worth it, only Rooney knows. But one thing's for sure - his wife Coleen certainly didn't think so.
