Coach Curt Cignetti looked at Indiana's 2024 schedule before even taking the Indiana job and checked off 10 wins. He one-upped that mark in a historic first season. And after Saturday's 66-0 rout over rival Purdue, Cignetti insists college football's playoff committee will have a hard time ignoring the Hoosiers.
The No. 9 Indiana Hoosiers capped off their impressive season with a blowout victory over their in-state rival Purdue, proving their strength and consistency throughout their matches. As the final whistle blew, the jubilant Indiana team celebrated their emphatic win with joy and pride. With this historic shutout victory, they not only beat their opponents on the scoreboard but also made a bold statement to college football’s playoff committee.
Many eyes are now on Indiana as the season comes to a close, their perfect record boasting their potential to claim the coveted top seed. And they may get it if other teams in the running start to falter in their performances. In advance of any potential playoff games, Cignetti expressed his confidence in the Hoosiers’ chances to secure their position and make history in the championship.
"Coach, this is 2024, it's not 1924", one of the students yelled from the audience. And it was more than that for the students who came out to support the Indiana Football Program. With wins like yesterday, those students sure have hope. A couple of 3-8s the past couple years was getting to be not so much fun for this Indiana Program but Coach Cignetti has been a star lately bringing the team back where every Hoosier fan likes them - which is on top of the league and rolling when you count their final game yesterday who is even more improved.
But shouldIndiana hoist a national championship trophy following the College Football Playoff? For those who witnessed Saturday’s 66-0 demolition of Purdue and the Hoosiers dominant display throughout the season will feel that there is a strong argument that can be made for them deserving the playoff spot. You just don’t see such great in-conference victories often in sports let alone from first-year coaches leading fresh teams who aren’t under-performing their team selection from prior seasons. When compared to some of their existing counterparts, with every such great victory the image of their athletic program begins to turn to the positive side each with incremental progress leaving the big heartbreak from just 2 years ago looking like quite an absurdity.
In what is being marked as the changing of the times for the Indiana football program, many questions still begin with the same main questions as to whether Indiana, following what was an overwhelming and resounding win will now be part of that given conversation for the final four playoff spots as Indiana looks ever more formidable to even what they previously seemed to perform and truly deserve to occupy one of those coveted positions in the national playoff given with each passing victory their performance so dramatically improves raising this bigger dream to more seriously contend with even the top of that top tier of teams they now find themselves amongst a welcome change for long suffering fans hoping to dream big again after feeling totally gutted only 2 years ago.
