The Athletics
temporary ballpark in Sacramento just got a major upgrade. During their temporary stay in the city, the baseball team will be playing on a natural grass field rather than the initially planned artificial turf. This sudden change in plans is expected to ease concerns about playing on synthetic surfaces during the scorching summer months in Sacramento.
The A
will be spending the next three years sharing a home with the San Francisco Giants
Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, at the Sutter Health Park. This temporary stay is a result of the A
anticipated move to Las Vegas in 2028. Initially, Major League Baseball had planned to install artificial turf at the facility to provide a more durable surface for the two teams.
However, this idea did not go down well with the Major League Baseball Players Association. The association expressed concerns that the synthetic turf surface could exacerbate the heat during the summer months in Sacramento. With temperatures often reaching highs of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit during this time, the artificial turf would have made the field too hot and possibly hazardous for players.
It is clear that the decision to install natural grass was made with the well-being and safety of the players in mind. Not only will this change make the field more playable, but it will also provide a better experience for fans watching the game in the stands. This decision could also have implications for other baseball stadiums in the long term.
The Sacramento River Cats, who also currently call the Sutter Health Park home, have had their fair share of dealing with hot summers. The current grass field at the park has been well-maintained and has helped the team deliver thrilling games to their fans. With the A
taking the same approach, fans can expect a great experience at their games.
The A's temporary move to Sacramento has certainly created a lot of buzz in the city. With this decision to change the playing surface to natural grass, the team seems to be committed to delivering an amazing experience to fans, both on and off the field. We can expect to see some fantastic games, with the added value of a natural grass field that will provide an authentic baseball experience for both players and fans alike.
