After leaning heavily on virtual readings, meetings and book launches to weather the COVID-19 pandemic, Winnipeg’s annual writers festival is back to primarily in-person events — albeit with a slightly different flavor.
Organizers of the festival have been working tirelessly to bring back the excitement and thrill of live events, while also incorporating the lessons learned from the virtual events held during the pandemic.
This year’s festival is set to kick off with a bang, featuring a lineup of renowned authors, poets, and writers from across the country. The 12-day event will include a mix of readings, workshops, panel discussions, and book launches, offering something for every book lover.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the emphasis on inclusivity and diversity. Organizers have made a conscious effort to include writers from diverse backgrounds and genres, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
“We’re thrilled to be back to in-person events, but we also know that the pandemic has changed the way we consume literature,” said one of the organizers. “We’re committed to making this year’s festival accessible and enjoyable for all, regardless of age, ability, or background.”
In addition to the lineup of events, the festival will also feature a series of workshops and masterclasses for aspiring writers. These sessions will provide an opportunity for emerging writers to learn from some of the best in the industry and get feedback on their work.
“We want to foster a sense of community among writers and readers,” said the organizer. “The workshops and masterclasses are designed to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for writers to hone their craft and connect with others who share their passion.”
While the festival is primarily focused on in-person events, organizers are also aware of the need to accommodate those who may not be able to attend in person. As such, some events will be live-streamed online, making it possible for people to participate remotely.
Overall, this year’s Winnipeg writers festival promises to be an exciting and enriching experience for book lovers of all ages. With its diverse lineup of events, workshops, and author talks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So mark your calendars and get ready to indulge in the world of words and deeds!
