Eva Longoria has been a household name for nearly two decades, thanks to her iconic roles on hit shows like Desperate Housewives and Telenovela. However, the 48-year-old actress has recently been making headlines for her vocal support of democratic candidates, particularly presidential hopeful Kamala Harris. In a shocking turn of events, Longoria has revealed that she has already fled Donald Trump's America, citing the country's 'scary' turn under his administration.
In a recent interview with a prominent news outlet, Longoria opened up about her decision to leave the United States, stating, 'I'm privileged, I can escape and go elsewhere.' The actress, who has been a longtime California resident, has opted to split her time between Spain and Mexico. Longoria's move comes as no surprise to those who have followed her outspoken criticism of Trump's policies.
When asked about her decision to flee, Longoria elaborated, 'The country seems to be becoming increasingly polarized. The values that I was raised with, the values that I want my future children to be raised with – empathy, kindness, compassion – seem to be under attack. It's scary to think about what the future holds for this country.'
Longoria's love affair with politics dates back to her early 20s, when she interned at the Los Angeles City Council. However, her involvement in politics only intensified in the lead-up to the 2020 presidential election, during which she actively campaigned for Kamala Harris. Her support for the democratic candidate was rooted in a shared vision for a more inclusive and compassionate America.
Although Longoria has expressed her gratitude for the privilege of being able to escape the United States, she acknowledges that not everyone has that luxury. 'There are so many people who are stuck in this situation, who can't just pick up and leave,' she said, her voice laced with empathy. 'I recognize that my ability to do so is a privilege, and I want to use that privilege to advocate for those who don't have a voice.'
As Longoria navigates her new life abroad, she remains committed to using her platform to speak out against injustice. When asked about her plans for the future, she revealed that she is working on several projects that aim to promote cultural understanding and exchange between the United States and Latin America.
Despite her decision to leave the United States, Longoria remains hopeful that one day, she will be able to return to the country that she once called home. 'I still believe in the American dream,' she said, a hint of optimism in her voice. 'I believe that we can reclaim our values and build a society that is just and equitable for all.'
