Shocking Truth Revealed: Why Multan Pitch Has Become a Nightmare for Bowlers!

October 8, 2024

Pakistani cricket stadium Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan is hosting the ongoing Pakistan vs England 1st Test of the three-match series and the pitch has already come under heavy scrutiny for being a flat surface with the first day’s play yet to be completed.

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen took to social media and called the Multan pitch ‘bowlers GRAVEYARD.’ Cricket fans also took to social media and voiced their frustration on the pitch being overly batting-friendly in Multan. The Multan pitch controversy is not new as many cricketers have complained about the same issue in the past.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan batters Shan Masood and Abdullah Shafique compiled a 254-run partnership on a pitch that seemed to offer no assistance to the bowlers. The partnership between the two Pakistan batters was an example of the domination that the batsmen have on the Multan pitch. Masood compiled his century in just 102 balls having hit 10 fours and two sixes. Other batters can also score runs with ease on a pitch that is full of runs.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Pietersen wrote, “That wicket in Multan - bowlers GRAVEYARD!” Pietersen’s statement about the pitch perfectly described the situation for the bowlers at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Kevin Pietersen is not the only cricketer to criticize the Multan pitch as many cricketers have voiced their frustration with the same. The pitch is a nightmare for the bowlers as they are unable to pick up wickets and unable to stop the flow of runs.

The recent Pakistan vs England Test is the perfect example of how bowlers are being dominated on the Multan pitch. England bowlers were unable to pick up wickets on the first day of the Test and were dominated by the Pakistan batters.
