Thursday night lights are always full of surprises, but this week's prep football matches had fans on the edge of their seats as they witnessed some shocking upsets and thrilling finishes across various local and regional tournaments.
The action-packed evening got off to a flying start with the match between Lincoln High and Springdale, a rivalry that has been a staple of Thursday night football for years. Lincoln, considered favorites to win, trailed 14-10 at halftime but managed to turn things around in the second half, thanks to a string of impressive plays by quarterback Tyler Johnson.
However, the biggest upset of the night came when the underdog Oakwood Owls took down the previously undefeated Sherwood squad 21-17. Oakwood's surprise victory has left many questioning Sherwood's chances of making a deep run in the playoffs.
The Oakwood-Sherwood matchup was not the only nail-biter of the evening, as fans in attendance at the Hillcrest-Riverview match were treated to an instant classic that went down to the wire. Tied 24-24 with only minutes left on the clock, Hillcrest quarterback Alex Smith led a stunning 80-yard drive that culminated in the game-winning touchdown with just seconds remaining.
Thursday's scores have left a lot to talk about as the prep football season heats up. Stay tuned for more updates from the world of high school football.
