Veronika Bondarenko recently took a chance on Spirit's new and improved business class offerings, the Go Big and Go Comfy fare classes, to see if the budget airline's promises of luxury held up to scrutiny.
Late last year, Spirit Airlines unveiled its all-new fare class system, aiming to modernize the budget airline experience and appeal to a broader range of travelers. The introduction of Go Big and Go Comfy marked a significant departure from the no-frills model that has defined the airline's image for so long.
Spirit's Go Big fare class represents its first-ever business class experience. With promises of better amenities and in-flight comfort, it is positioned to compete directly with major airlines. Meanwhile, the Go Comfy fare class expands on the typical Spirit experience with a set of convenience perks that distance themselves from the standard bare-bones offering.
Having flown business class on several high-end airlines, Veronika had certain expectations going in. Would Spirit's take on business class live up to the hype?
One thing that pleasantly surprised Veronika was the speed and efficiency of check-in and boarding. With dedicated lines and perks that expedited the process, she found herself accessing the comfort of the aircraft much faster than she had anticipated.
This efficiency carried over into her first impressions of the cabin, where she was greeted by friendly, attentive flight attendants who took the time to answer any questions and make her feel welcome.
About an hour into the flight, Veronika decided to order some in-flight meals, an often-risky endeavor when dealing with a budget airline. However, the food arrived promptly and, in a major departure from her expectations, actually tasted quite good.
The quality of service stood out, as the cabin crew went above and beyond, checking in on her throughout the flight to make sure all her needs were met.
Given the choice between this updated Spirit experience and its major competitors, Veronika unexpectedly found herself leaning slightly towards the budget airline. Where traditional business class often gets lost in pomp and circumstance, Spirit managed to achieve its luxury milestones without alienating its customers.
A surprising find in an airline notorious for the sparsest of options, Spirit showed an overwhelming sense of worth for every hard-earned dollar of hers.
So, the question we all want to know: Is this the start of a bold new chapter in business class travel? It's possible that Spirit has tapped into something remarkable here. Only time will tell if other airlines are ready to step their game up in response to this.
Veronika found herself consistently impressed by her time in the air and may have single-handedly swayed public opinion about the kind of business class that exists in the accessible space.
