Content warning: This story discusses suicide.
The dance community is in mourning after a shocking loss. Emily Gold, a talented young dancer and recent alum of America’s Got Talent, has tragically passed away at the tender age of 17.
Emily’s dance journey took a remarkable turn when she, alongside her Los Osos High School varsity dance team, auditioned for season 19 of America’s Got Talent. Although their journey on the show was cut short during the quarterfinal round just a month ago, the team left an indelible mark on the audience and judges alike.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, Emily’s passing was confirmed as a result of suicide. On September 13, officers responded to a call reporting a pedestrian down on the highway in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Upon arrival, authorities discovered an unidentified female who had been struck by at least one vehicle, succumbing to her injuries at the scene. Subsequent identification by the coroner’s office confirmed the deceased as Emily Gold.
As news of her passing spread, the dance community and fans of America’s Got Talent are left reeling, grappling to comprehend the loss of such a young and promising talent. Emily’s strength and drive in juggling school with her passion for dancing had drawn admiration from many. Her performances exuded energy and enthusiasm, so much so that even the notoriously critical judge, Simon Cowell, was moved to lavish praise on her team’s final performance.
Speaking to People in an August 13 interview, Emily shared the grueling yet rewarding process of perfecting her craft. “When I’m performing, I’m really thinking about all the corrections,” she admitted, “because we get corrections up until five minutes before we go on stage.” Her dedication was noteworthy, and despite her young years, she came across as an embodiment of the values that Cowell commended – nurturing talent and cultivating meaningful relationships with her fellow teammates.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Emily’s death remains ongoing. Meanwhile, her passion and enthusiasm have left an indelible mark on everyone she touched, both on and off the stage.
