MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Mike McDaniel has seen a change in quarterback Tua Tagovailoa over the past month. The growth and maturity in the young quarterback have been evident in the way he's played, making his reads and delivering throws with precision and accuracy. And the results have been impressive.
The Miami Dolphins picked up their third straight win, defeating the New England Patriots 34-15 in a dominating performance that showcased the growth of Tagovailoa and the cohesiveness of the Dolphins offense.
Tagovailoa shredded the Patriots defense with four touchdown passes, completing 24 of his 35 attempts for 341 yards. He also showed his ability to make plays with his legs, adding 19 yards on the ground to complement his impressive passing display.
For the Dolphins, the win marked their third consecutive victory and improved their record to 7-3. They now sit firmly in the playoff mix, looking to make a push for the postseason in the coming weeks.
The loss dropped the Patriots to 4-6, and they now face an uphill climb if they are to make the playoffs this season.
McDaniel, the Dolphins' head coach, praised Tagovailoa's growth and maturity, saying that he had developed into a true leader on the team.
The Patriots, on the other hand, struggled to find their footing on offense. Mac Jones, the team's quarterback, completed just 23 of his 42 attempts for 244 yards and a touchdown. He also threw an interception, which was returned by the Dolphins for a touchdown.
The Patriots' struggles on offense have become a recurring theme this season, and they will need to find a way to get things turned around if they are to make a push for the playoffs.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, are hitting their stride at just the right time. With several winnable games on their schedule, they are in a great position to make a deep run in the playoffs.
The schedule doesn't get much easier for the Patriots, however. With several tough games on tap, including matchups against the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills, they will need to be at their best if they are to make the playoffs this season.
For now, though, the Dolphins are the team on the rise. And with Tagovailoa at the helm, they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the coming weeks.
