Ultimate Family Adventure: Insider Tips to Make Your Lake District Staycation Unforgettable!

October 13, 2024

Mention the Lake District, and you’re probably thinking of rolling hills, crystal-clear lakes, and some of the most stunning scenery the UK has to offer. Located in northwest England, this picturesque region is an absolute gem for families looking to explore the great outdoors. As a long-time fan of the Lake District, I’ve had the pleasure of visiting this breathtaking destination with my kids every year. From action-packed adventures to relaxing downtime, I’ve discovered all the top things to do and see in the area. But to really make the most of our staycation, we needed a comfortable and convenient base. That’s where The Swan Hotel and Spa by Newby Bridge comes in.

This beautifully situated hotel is perfect for families, offering spacious rooms and suites that are well-equipped for kids of all ages. But what really sets The Swan Hotel apart is its unbeatable location, making it the perfect starting point for our Lake District adventure. From hiking and biking to boat rides and waterfalls, we were spoiled for choice when it came to planning our staycation activities. One of our absolute favorites was a leisurely boat ride on Lake Windermere. The kids had a blast steering the boat themselves (with a little help from the grown-ups, of course!), while we were able to sit back and soak up the breathtaking views.

Of course, no trip to the Lake District would be complete without exploring the beautiful countryside. We spent hours hiking through the hills and woodlands, keeping our eyes peeled for wildlife and making the most of the amazing scenery. The best part? The hotel staff at The Swan were always happy to offer expert advice on the best trails to follow and the top spots to visit.

But hiking isn’t the only way to experience the great outdoors in the Lake District. We also spent a fun-filled day exploring the incredible Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum. As the former home of poet William Wordsworth, this museum offers a unique glimpse into the life and times of one of the UK’s most beloved writers. From exploring the beautiful gardens to taking part in interactive workshops and activities, the kids were kept entertained from start to finish.

One of the best things about The Swan Hotel and Spa by Newby Bridge is its excellent location, making it easy to explore the wider Lake District region. We took full advantage of this by visiting the iconic Castlerigg Stone Circle. Located near Keswick, this ancient monument is steeped in history and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

All in all, our staycation at The Swan Hotel and Spa by Newby Bridge was an unforgettable experience. From exploring the beautiful Lake District scenery to enjoying quality time together as a family, we made memories that will last a lifetime. If you’re thinking of planning a family staycation in the UK, the Lake District is an absolute must-visit. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed!
