Infinix’s first tablet appears to offer the best possible hardware at the most competitive price. While its core hardware may seem similar to the competition, Infinix also backs it up with near-stock Android software. With users growing more particular about their mobile devices, Infinix decided to throw its hat into the tablet arena with the all-new Infinix XPad.
When you first take the Infinix XPad out of its box, it becomes immediately apparent that this is not a device built for the budget-conscious user in mind; the premium-looking design feels remarkably sturdy, with the aluminum frame and rear solidly built and emitting a reassuring heft when handled. The more minimalistic approach gives it a sleek and smart look that doesn't easily betray its budget credentials.
One thing that is often an issue with budget-friendly tablets is their displays. Lower-end displays often result in a poorer viewing experience, due in part to the poor color accuracy and less-than-ideal contrast. But the Infinix XPad bucks this trend. The 10.1-inch display is far more vibrant than we expected, with rich colors and an all-around excellent visual experience. From gaming to watching your favorite shows, the Infinix XPad's display never fails to delight.
That said, perhaps one of the strongest selling points for this particular tablet is its ability to offer near-stock Android 11 software, complete with all the features we’ve come to love from Google’s mobile OS. Infinix has done an excellent job emulating this stock experience, from the intuitive interface to the smooth performance. The app drawer, the multitasking window, the notification shade – everything feels very familiar.
Our review unit comes with 4GB of RAM, but you can also opt for a higher-specced version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage if you need more. The SoC used here is an Unisoc Tiger T618 that is built on a 12nm process, with a dual-cluster CPU consisting of two A75 cores and six A55 cores. Graphics duties are handled by a Mali G52 GPU that does a pretty good job at more casual gaming. As a result, even when multiple apps are running in the background, we were able to quickly and easily switch between them, with nearly zero lag or stuttering. The Wi-Fi performance was superb as well, as we never experienced a dropped connection throughout our testing.
When it comes to cameras, tablets are often a bit of an afterthought. The Infinix XPad has two cameras, consisting of a 5-megapixel selfie camera located on the top right hand side in portrait mode and an 8-megapixel camera on the back. While the results may not win any awards for image quality, both cameras are functional for a budget tablet, and we found the audio quality to be equally impressive.
The Infinix XPad's weight and size are perfect for use on the couch or anywhere else you don't want a large device taking up space. Battery life from the 6000mAh battery is sufficient for full-day use, even if you plan on gaming or watching videos extensively.
Based on specs alone, it might seem like Infinix didn't exactly break new ground with its first tablet, but using the XPad reveals a truly nice surprise. At this price point, you could do much worse than the Infinix XPad.
