Royal Racism? Why Fawning Over King Charles III Does Australia a Disservice

October 19, 2024

As the world watches, Australians continue to fawn over visiting English royalty - a disturbing trend that harks back to the country's colonial days. The latest royal to grace our shores is none other than King Charles III, with many Aussies gushing over his presence at the races and other high-society events.

But in 2024, shouldn't we be beyond this? Shouldn't we have moved on from the days of debasing ourselves in front of visiting English people, treating them like superior beings simply because of their royal status?

The answer is a resounding yes. It's high time we shed the colonial mentality that still seems to pervade our culture, where we fawn over anyone with a royal title and treat them like royalty.

This is not to say that King Charles III isn't entitled to respect - of course, he is. But the overwhelming adoration and fawning that he receives from Australians is bordering on embarrassing. Can't we see that this sort of behavior is rooted in our colonial past, where we were forced to doff our caps to English overlords?

We need to wake up and realize that we are no longer a colony, and we shouldn't be treating English royalty like they own the place. It's time to assert our independence and our equality with the rest of the world.

Instead of fawning over King Charles III at the races, we should be focusing on the real issues that affect Australia - issues like poverty, inequality, and climate change. We should be working towards creating a better future for all Australians, not just the privileged few who get to rub shoulders with royalty.

So let's all take a step back and reflect on our behavior. Are we truly being respectful and courteous to King Charles III, or are we just perpetuating a colonial mentality that does us no favors? The answer to this question has serious implications for our national identity and our place in the world.

It's time for Australia to grow up and move on from its colonial past. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to forge a new path, one that is based on equality, respect, and independence - not servility to English royalty.
